Three Up or Three Down: Grading #25 Spartan Football POST ARIZONA STATE
- DOWN: Spartan OL is struggling and that is putting it nicely. There is NO EXCUSE for them to be performing this badly. After one game, it was a concern, but correctable. Now the Spartans dreams of another Big Ten title are resting on that one unit. The season hinges on this unit and coaching.
- DOWN: Expectations for this program are high. They should be. The Spartans had a one-game margin entering the season. Dantonio said after the loss to ASU that, “All of their goals are ahead of them.” He is 100% correct. If MSU wins out they will be Big Ten champs and go to the playoff. But one more loss and they won’t be heading to the playoff and almost certainly out of the running for a Big Ten title. MSU lost ALL OF THEIR wiggle room when the clock struck 0:00 early on Sunday morning.
- UP: MSU Defense is very good. You won’t read that narrative on message boards or social media, but they are. Yes, they gave up 319 yards passing against USU and 380 through the air vs. ASU. But they gave up only 16 points against ASU and 25 yards rushing vs. USU and 63 to ASU. Against USU there was a pick six and offensive issues. They have NOT been the reason for the struggles. Down an NFL corner, these guys are playing very good.
Cody White had a monster day in Tempe. He had nine catches for 113 yards and one TD. He is a star, no doubt.
