Three Up or Three Down: Grading Spartan Football POST UTAH STATE
- UP: Connor Heyward the backup RB looked like a starter. He only ran the ball five times but had 42 yards and two touchdowns.
- UP: Matt Coughlin the placekicker had a super 2017 season and with three PAT’s and three field goals along with no misses, he continues to shine and was the MVP of game one.
- DOWN: Brian Lewerke’s fumble and pick six are a concern. He is the QB that has to lead this machine and ball security is critical. MSU survived Utah State, against a Big Ten team it could have cost them the game. While I am not down on Lewerke, those mistakes are worthy of being considered DOWN for this game.
Joe Bachie is the best MLB in the Big Ten and I think the nation. He played like it. 11 tackles and a spectacular interception to seal the game. Unfortunately for Bachie, he is so good, that another amazing game is not an up. We expect it because he is the best player on a very good team. Doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate it, just not an “Up” or “Down” because it was what he is capable of doing and does every week. I will have a lot more about Bachie in this week’s War Room coming on Thursday.
I have written a lot about Kenny Willekes. He had six tackles and two sacks. He is a machine and if he progresses as he is, look out come Big Ten play.
