Going into last weekend’s Michigan State Elite Camp, Bay City (MI) Central 2020 wide receiver Devell Washington looked like he may be on track to land an offer from Michigan State.   After an impressive performance over the weekend, Washington may be even closer to the coveted offer from the Spartans.

Washington recently spoke with Spartan Nation to recap his time at the Elite Camp and said that he caught the attention of those watching and said that he felt confident with his performance.

“I know I did (well),” he said. “I went in confident.”

Among those impressed with Washington’s showing over the weekend was #5 Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio and receivers coach Terrence Samuel, who told him he intends to watch some film on Washington, which could lead to a potential offer in the not-so-distant future.

“He said that he likes what I’m doing,” he said. “He’s about to go over film and he said he’s going to make sure I’m a Spartan, 100-percent.”

So far in the recruiting process, Washington holds offers from Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, and Michigan, who extended an offer to him on Monday night following the Elite Camp.

But while he doesn’t hold an offer from Michigan State as of yet, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound receiver said that a potential offer from the Spartans would be a  big deal for him.

“It would be a life changer,” he said. “I grew up a Spartan fan, my uncle, Charles Rogers was a football player. I was just watching the film with him, he was exciting me about football.”

When asked what drives him to be an elite football player and recruit, Washington said that simply he has aspirations of playing football after high school and even college and understands the work ethic that is needed to reach that point.

“I just felt like it was, honestly from growing up, I just feel like it’s free money,” he said. “There’s free money out there, want it as bad as you want to breathe.”

But with two more years of high school football left before he reaches the college level, Washington told Spartan Nation that he still wants to improve in two specific areas of his game.

“My ability to go get the ball and be more versatile,” he said.
