Over the course of the past couple of months, Strongsville (OH) 2019 offensive lineman J.D. Duplain has been one of the most coveted interior offensive linemen in the Midwest as his offer list has grown to 22 schools, with #5 Michigan State and several other Division 1 programs showing serious interest.
Duplain, who took a visit to East Lansing earlier this month, recently spoke with Spartan Nation and the 6-foot-4, 295-pound 3-star recruit said that he enjoyed taking in a practice during his time on campus.
“It was awesome,” he said. “I got to see all of the facilities and I got to watch them get after it and got to watch the offensive line coach. I really like everything they have going there, I had a great time.”
Among Duplain’s 22 offers are Indiana, Kentucky, Arkansas, Boston College, Syracuse, Iowa State, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Rutgers.
Duplain said that while he doesn’t hold an offer from the Spartans as of yet, a potential offer is one that would mean a lot to him because of the fact he’s admired Michigan State over the years.
“It would mean a ton to me, they’ve always been one of my favorite schools,” he said. “I always watched them as a kid and it would just mean a lot to me.”
Duplain told Spartan Nation that he expects to take part in Michigan State’s Elite Camp this June.
When it comes to the Big Ten schools who have offered him, Duplain is high on them and said that one thing that stands out to him about Indiana is how comfortable he is with the coaching staff.
“I like them, their coach has talked to me a lot and I feel very comfortable with the coaches,” he said. “I really like what they have to offer there.”
Although he hasn’t visited Maryland, Duplain said that visiting the Terrapins is a priority for him after they became the most recent school to offer him.
“That was my most recent offer that came in this week” he said. “I’ve got to get out there, check the place out and see how I would fit there.”
Another school Duplain intends to visit in the near future is Rutgers, who he has been in contact with regularly since the Scarlet Knights extended an offer to him at the end of February.
“I’ve been talking to the O-line coach a lot, he’s coming up to school soon,” he said. “I’ve got to talk to him and see if I can take a visit soon.”
Duplain also said that he’s become more familiar with Pittsburgh and head coach Pat Narduzzi and said he’s planning on visiting in the not-so-distant future.
“They’ve been talking to me a lot, actually,” he said. “I just talked to the offensive line coach last night over the phone and they really want me to come down to visit and that’s something I plan on doing here soon.”
Duplain plans on going to school to be a teacher and also added he’d like to coach football as well and also added that his father is a former college football player himself, who played center at Kent State.
When talking to Michigan State, Duplain said that he feels the Spartans like his physical style of play and also added that Michigan State co-offensive coordinator Jim Bollman stopped by to see him in school recently.
“They like how physical I play,” he said. “They like my film a lot and coach Bollman was up at our lift yesterday and he was watching me lift a little bit and said that he really liked my numbers in the weight room.”
