19 MI DE Jalen Hunt Talks Michigan State Offer

Over the course of the past couple of years, #5 Michigan State has heavily recruited Belleville (MI) as the Spartans have 2018 signee Davion Williams set to join the team this summer and also have a commitment from 2019 4-star ATH Julian Barnett and have also offered top 2019 offensive lineman Devontae Dobbs.

Earlier this week, Michigan State extended offers to two more Belleville standouts, 2019 defensive lineman Jalen Hunt and 2021 offensive lineman Damon Payne.

Spartan Nation caught up with Hunt to discuss his newly received offer and the 6-foot-3, 235 pound 3-star recruit said that he’s been waiting for the offer from the Spartans since he was in middle school.

“It meant a lot to me, because I’ve been waiting for it since like the eighth grade,” he said. “That means a lot to me.”

Hunt currently holds 20 offers in the recruiting process, including offers from Indiana, Iowa, Boston College, Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Missouri, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

Hunt also told Spartan Nation that he grew up a fan of Michigan State.

Before officially receiving his offer from Michigan State, Hunt was introduced to the Michigan State defensive coaching staff over the phone and then spoke with Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio, who informed him of his offer.

“The whole defensive staff called me and they passed the phone around and had me meet everybody,” he said. “Then coach Dantonio told me that I had gotten an offer.”

While nothing is set in stone, Hunt said that he believes he will take part in Michigan State’s elite camp this June and also said he expects to make a college decision before or during his senior season.

Hunt was last on campus in East Lansing for Michigan State’s annual Green and White Spring Game earlier this month.

With plenty of offers in hand and several more likely coming in the near future, Hunt said that he will take some visits this summer and fall, but also wants to stay focused on the upcoming season as well.

“I’m going to do a little bit of both because of the season,” he said. “I’m going to try not to do too much.”
