THREE UP OR DOWN: #1 MICHIGAN STATE BASKETBALL AFTER 29 GAME
Three up or down: the three Parts of the #1 Michigan State basketball that are trending up or down now.
- UP Cassius Winston Winston is emerging not only as a very good point guard but has improved his defense and is becoming a big time thread. One NBA scout told me on Sunday, “I think he could after four years become a Pooh Richardson (UCLA/Timberwolves 1st RD Pick) player.” He has some work, but Saturday (against Northwestern) was a big one. Izzo said of his star, “We put it in his hands and he made some magic,” But I thought what Winston said was even better, “I’ve got to do whatever’s in the best of my abilities to win games for this team. Take my opportunities, take my shots when they’re there. It’s my job to step up and knock those down.”
- UP Big Ten Title Race The Spartans are in the hunt. In fact, they are more than in the hunt. They are in sole possession of first place right now and if they win out they are outright Big Ten champs. Izzo said last week, “I’ve told them I don’t want them looking ahead, I just want them looking at the next game.”
- UP The SpartansMSU (26-3, 14-2 Big Ten) Enough said. They overcame a 27-point deficit vs. Northwestern when down 43-16 in the first half to come back and win 65-60. The Spartans have won 10 in a row and seven on the road in league play.
