19 OH LB Luke Fulton Talks MSU UV & Offer
Since the beginning of the 2018 calendar year, there have been few players in the 2019 class that have seen their recruitment pick up more than Youngstown (OH) Cardinal Mooney 3-star linebacker Luke Fulton as he has picked up 15 offers since the start of the new year after receiving an offer from #15 Michigan State during an unofficial visit over the weekend.
Spartan Nation spoke with Fulton following his trip to East Lansing and the 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker said that he enjoyed spending time with the Spartan coaching staff and getting to see the campus as well as taking in Saturday’s basketball game between the No. 4 ranked Spartans and No. 3 Purdue.
“The weekend was great, it was my first time getting on campus,” he said. “Getting to see all of the facilities, the facilities were great, getting to talk to the coaches and spend time with them. Then going to that basketball game, and it turned out to be a pretty crazy game to go to, they beat Purdue on that last second three, so that was a pretty cool game.”
Fulton noted that he spent plenty of time with Michigan State defensive coordinator Mike Tressel on his visit and also got a chance to talk with tight ends coach Jim Bollman, special teams coordinator Don Treadwell as well as head coach Mark Dantonio on his visit.
Fulton noted that one thing that stood out to him during the basketball game he was in attendance for was the environment and game day atmosphere.
“I thought the crowd was great,” he said. “It was definitely louder and there were way more people there than I expected to be. That type of a game, that close of a game, it was a really cool experience.”
Along with his offer from Michigan State, Fulton holds 18 offers, including offers from Rutgers, Syracuse, Army, Kentucky, Indiana, Duke, Cincinnati, Boston College, and Iowa, who extended an offer to him back on Friday.
Fulton said that in his interactions with the Michigan State coaches, he felt that they made it very clear to him that he was a top priority for the Spartans’ 2019 class and said that he would feel comfortable in a program that has made him a priority.
“Right after they offered, they made it clear that if I were to commit tomorrow, they would welcome me with open arms,” he said. “So it was really cool knowing they want me that much and that they have that much interest in me, where that could definitely be a place where I can go and be loved there. That would be really cool.”
During his visit, Fulton said that he had the chance to see Michigan State’s football facilities, including Spartan Stadium, the locker room, and the practice facility and admitted that he was impressed with what he saw.
“We took a bus over and even though it was covered in snow, they had a path that was shoveled out from the goal line to the 50,” he said. “So we got to walk out and look around and see what it looks like from the field.”
“It was big, a really big, cool stadium,” Fulton added. “I had never been there and didn’t know what to expect, but as soon as you get out on that field, you could tell that it could really get rocking.”
Before Fulton took his visit, he told Spartan Nation that a potential offer from the Spartans would put Michigan State at or near the top of his list when it comes down to the schools he’s considering.
Now that he has an offer from Michigan State in hand and he’s had the opportunity to see the campus and facilities, Fulton said he could see himself eventually choosing Michigan State and could see himself being a fit in the Spartans’ football program.
“It would for sure be a place where I could see myself playing,” he said. “Michigan State is definitely a place that will be very seriously considered in the process with me and it’s going to be a school that’s at the top with me. It’s a place that I could go and fit in very well there.”
