Mark Dantonio and the #15 Michigan State Spartans official signed 20 players at the first ever early signing period.  So today came and went with relatively little fanfare and no surprises.  That can be a good thing.

While Michigan State is not a program that signs surprises each signing period, they are not one that sees players bolt either.  Mark Dantonio’s methodical approach to “Relationship” recruiting over high-pressure tactics frustrates some, but the lack of drama is really a testimony.

Today only one player signed an official Letter of Intent.  That was 18 NV WR Jalen Nailor who Spartan Nation has written about and interviewed many times.  Here is what Dantonio had to say today.

Michigan State Football Signing Day Update

EAST LANSING, Mich. – After signing 20 players to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period in December, #15 Michigan State football signed one player to an NLI on Wednesday in wide receiver Jalen Nailor (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman High School).

“We really signed an outstanding class in December with 20 players that we’re extremely excited about,” said Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio. “Seven of those players are enrolled early and already beginning their Spartan careers. We signed one additional recruit today, wide receiver Jalen Nailor from Bishop Gorman High School, who played for one of the top programs in the nation. We also welcomed two in-state players to the program in David Kruse and Dan VanOpstall.”

At 4:33 PM today Michigan State and Dantonio also announced a preferred walk-on.  He is well known to Spartans.  Spartan Nation has previewed and interviewed him many times and is a punter and kicker.  Here was that statement:

Michigan State has received paperwork for punter William Przystup of Oviedo, Florida/Oviedo High School.

While I expect that the Spartans could sign one more player to a scholarship in April, it is my understanding that they do not expect any others for this class as scholarship players.  I anticipate at least one more preferred walk on if not two.
