With National Signing Day less than a week away and Bolingbrook (IL) 2018 defensive tackle Dashaun Mallory ready to make his college decision official, he will have a special guest in school on Friday afternoon as #15 Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio is set to visit Mallory’s school.
Mallory told Spartan Nation on Thursday night that he’s obviously excited for Friday and is looking forward to welcoming in Dantonio.
“I’m pretty jacked,” he said. “This is supposed to be pretty huge and I can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting for this.”
Mallory currently holds 11 offers, but all signs point to the 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive tackle joining Michigan State’s 2018 recruiting class.
When Dantonio visits Bolingbrook, he will be meeting with some of Mallory’s teachers to make sure that everything is in order for him to officially join the Spartans and Mallory said that he’s looking forward to having the chance to show Dantonio how invested he is in the classroom.
“It means so much for him to see that I’m as serious about my academics as I am about football,” he said. “I know that he preaches school first, so to have him come in and hear about all of the good things that I do outside of football is just great.”
While Mallory is proud of what he has accomplished on the football field, the 3-star recruit said that what he’s most proud of is what he’s accomplished in the classroom and the amount of time and effort he’s invested into being a good student.
“Football is great,” he said. “You can win a couple of games, you can lose a couple of games, but just to have your grades right and having people ask you ‘How are your grades?’ and to tell them you have straight A’s, that’s another feeling, that’s another mood, that’s another vibe. It’s great.”
Mallory was on campus for an official visit to Michigan State last month and was on hand for the Spartans’ annual rivalry game against Michigan on the basketball court.
When it comes to the Spartans, Mallory said that he’s already developed a strong relationship with Dantonio and said that he feels that the Spartans’ head coach has a good feel for him and how he goes about his business.
“He just saw how I operate, on the football field you can see how dedicated I am to the game,” he said. “But to see that I have the same intangibles in school is just a different thing, that’s what’s more important.”
But with his attention on Dantonio’s visit to Bolingbrook on Friday afternoon, Mallory told Spartan Nation that he has been told by Dantonio that everything is in order and hopes to hear and deliver some good news on Friday.
“I’m pretty much all set, to be honest,” he said. “He wants to come in to see the weekly progress and I’ve been doing that and everything is good right now, that’s what he said.”
