19 MI OL Adam Berghorst Recaps Recent MSU Visit

Since receiving his offer from #15 Michigan State back in December, Zeeland (MI) East 2019 offensive lineman Adam Berghorst has continued to see his recruitment take off and was in East Lansing for a visit over the weekend.

Berghorst spoke with Spartan Nation to recap his visit and said that he enjoyed his time on campus and enjoyed being in attendance for Michigan State’s annual rivalry game with Michigan at the Breslin Center on Saturday.

“It was awesome, such a great day,” he said. “Awesome atmosphere to see, I loved the fans and all of the students there and it was good to see all of the coaches again.”

In his time on campus, Berghorst said that he had the opportunity to talk with several coaches, including Mark Dantonio, and added that he appreciated having the chance to catch up with the Spartans’ head coach.

“We didn’t get to meet the new defensive ends coach, but we got to talk to coach Burton and coach Staten as well and got to talk to coach Dantonio about building up,” he said. “It was good to see those guys again.”

“I talked to him right before we left to go to the Michigan game,” Berhorst said of speaking with Dantonio. “I talked to him in the team room and just caught up with him about my basketball season and he’s going to try to come to a game and visit the school and just talked about what their schedule is like.”

Along with talking to the Michigan State coaching staff, Berghorst also said that he liked having the chance to interact with several other recruits that were taking their visits as well.

“Yeah I have, there were definitely a lot of top guys there and I met quite a few,” he said. “I’ve seen a lot of them around, so I was able to catch up with a few guys.”

Along with his offer from the Spartans, Berghorst holds seven offers, including offers from Indiana, Kentucky, Iowa State and, most recently, Minnesota, who offered him back at the beginning of January.

Berghorst also said that Minnesota was in school recently and plans to be on campus for the Golden Gophers’ junior day and is looking forward to seeing the campus.

“Coach Fleck called me two weeks ago and then offered, that was right after Michigan State (offered),” he said. “Coach Simon, their wide receivers coach, was at school and they’ve been texting me a lot lately and I’m planning on going to a junior day to see their new facilities within the next couple of weeks.”

Two more Big Ten schools that are showing interest in the 6-foot-7, 245-pound lineman, capable of playing both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, are Purdue and Wisconsin.

The Boilermakers are expected to be in school to see Berghorst this week and he noted that he’s excited to get to know some of the coaches after establishing a relationship when he was on campus for a game last fall.

“They’re going to come to school this week, I went to a gameday visit,” he said. “So they’re coming to school this week and I’ll be able to meet more of the coaches and the cornerbacks’ coach who recruits our area.”

Wisconsin is a program that has been aggressive with its interest in Berghorst and the Badgers are expects to be in school in the near future, while he plans to visit Madison for a camp this summer and possibly a junior day as well.

“They’re going to come back to school again, I think they’re planning on it,” he said. “I might go to a junior day there, it depends on what’s going on and then maybe a camp, they really want me to come to camp.”

But with plenty of time, before he needs to make a decision on where he will be playing at the next level, Berghorst is enjoying the recruiting process and looking forward to getting out and visiting schools.

“I’m enjoying it a lot,” he said. “A lot of schools are reaching out and it’ll be cool to see some new schools and see how everybody does it.”
