Hondo, great call on Casey Lubahn.  You mentioned how bad the golf program had become.  Can you give me any ideas what was going on?  Bill

Bill, there is no need to get into a lot of detail.  What I will say is that there was a lot of tension in and around the program and that there needed to be a change.  It was the perfect choice.

Hondo, I really enjoyed the interview on the radio show with the new golf coach.  He sounds like a good guy.  I liked the idea of inviting the public to go golfing at the MSU golf course and meet him.  I would be up for that.  Think it will happen?  Jeff

Jeff, he will be doing a lot.  That specific event?  I can’t say, but you will see Casey out and about like the other high profile coaches.  He will reconnect Spartan golf with the Spartan Nation again.

Hondo, I really liked last week that you interviewed the asst. baseball coach and the tennis coach.  You said her nickname was Ziva.  I am a really big NCIS fan, does it come from that or is it a nickname from her home in Brazil?  Jennifer

Hi Jennifer.  I gave Coach that nickname.  I am also a big NCIS fan and she looks like the character Ziva David.

Hondo, I was pleased to see that Jake Boss and MSU baseball have some new recruits that may not come because they were drafted by the major leagues.  Will they be able to go out and get a quick recruit to cover the loss of a player or two if they go?  Art

Art, they could, but the good recruits are already committed.  They would have to maybe take a reach on someone or possibly a JUCO.  It tells you the talent Jake is getting, but it is frustrating.

Hondo, I loved this month’s magazine.  I had never really cared about MSU sports other than football and men’s basketball and when Ron was here I liked Hockey.  Your coverage of the sports other than those has really been great.  It hasn’t been overdone, but thanks for letting us get to know the coaches.  I can’t wait for hockey, baseball, and to see Jasmine Hines’s next year for Suzy Merchant.  Good stuff.  Greg

Thanks Greg.  Those other sports are non-revenue for a reason.  They don’t carry the interest that other sports do.  I do think when you meet the coaches and players and hear their stories it makes it much better.  Thanks to you of course, but also my great staff of writers who do a super job.

Hondo, I can’t tell you how much I loved the Danton Cole interview.  He is so good and with his hands all in youth hockey (seven first round NHL picks this year) I am still stunned that he didn’t get the MSU job.  You have sold me on Anastos, but if it doesn’t work, do you think we can get him?  Danny

Danny, let me tell you that Danton is so solid behind Coach Anastos.  He loves MSU and I can tell you that he is on board and if you asked him, he would tell you that Coach Anastos and the staff will get it done.  Coming back isn’t even on his mind.  I am not just saying that as a media member.  Danton is my friend and he is fired up about Coach Anastos and I can tell you that there is no bitterness and he is solid and supportive with the new coach.

OK everyone, there you go, our weekly general MSU athletics Q and A article.  We will continue them every Tuesday morning (this week Monday) so if you have a question (not about basketball or football) here is a simple way to get it here.  Send your questions to SpartanNationMail@yahoo.com and put in the subject line general.  If it doesn’t get answered in the article you will get a personal response.  Thank you!
