Congrats to Don Treadwell for getting the Miami of Ohio head coaching job.  He is not only a good coach, but a very close friend and I am immensely proud of him.

As of this moment, he will be taking two people with him to Miami of Ohio.  They are both grad assistants, Zak Willis and Nick Siatras.  Willis came to MSU as a former division three head coach.  He has been critical in recruiting and on the field.  Siatras is a brilliant football mind and his name you need to keep in your mind for years to come.  His future is very bright.  Write this down:  Siatras will be a coaching star one day.

As Spartan Nation was the first to report, Dan Roushar will be the Spartans next OC when Dantonio finishes all interviews and makes it public.  Roushar has vast experience at that job and is a brilliant football coach.  He is ready to be a head coach right now.  He held together a Spartan offensive line this year when injuries kept some key players off of the line that many thought would compete for starting roles.

With Roushar being promoted the Spartans are looking for a WR coach at this moment.  Treadwell handled that role prior to his move to Miami of Ohio.  He was both the WR coach and OC.

Dantonio will look at several candidates for the job.  Here are two that are in the hunt early.  I want to tell you that I am not saying either are shoe-ins or will get the job.  That isn’t settled.  It is just two names in the hunt early.

Herb Haygood, former MSU All American and he played in the NFL:  He coached last year at division two Saginaw Valley.  Haygood has tremendous ties to MSU and is widely lauded as a great recruiter.  There was talk when Enos left that he could coach the WRs then and have Treadwell take over the RBs, or since he originally came to MSU as a RB prior to being moved to WR he could coach the RBs.  The Spartans, of course, hired Brad Salem, but only after Haygood got significant attention.  He has great ties to Florida and would be an astounding recruiter in that state also.

Zach Azzanni, recently retired Florida head coach: Urban Meyer called Dantonio earlier this week and recommended this former coach from his staff with the Gators last season.  He also coached with Meyer at Bowling Green and was the WR coach at Central Michigan under Butch Jones.  Azzanni is a star in the making.  He has tremendous recruiting skills and great coaching ability.  Meyer said of Azzanni when he hired him at Florida, “He is a tireless worker, relentless recruiter, and a great teacher of fundamentals.”  He is a graduate of CMU.

There will be a plethora of great candidates that apply for the job so it certainly isn’t done, but Haygood and Azzanni are both great options early for Dantonio.
