I learned from three sources close to the situation that late last week the Lions began talking with Damien Woody about restructuring his contract.  Woody is, at this point, potentially a long shot to make the team and those odds slim even more if his massive contract (and that amount that it costs against the cap) is not restructured.

The Lions are very happy with the young group of guards that they presently have on the roster, but should one not perform well when the pads come on in training camp or if they sustain an injury, that would appear Woody’s best way to make the team.

With a restructured deal, Woody may also be more attractive to another team (such as the Seahawks) who are in desperate need of a guard.  Either way, a restructured deal makes Woody’s future a little more bright.
